" Resonate ... "

“ ... Feel your presence all around me
On the same frequency.

Resonate, resonate ...

I reach for you and there you are.
You bow the strings that move my heart ...

Resonate, resonate ... “

It’s a pretty cool feeling to be at a ‘certain’ age, learn something new which ignites your passion for the subject itself ... my personal experience with yoga teacher training, and specifially ... Yin Yoga.

Yin Yoga as its roots in the Taoist healing arts.  It was a merging of an elemental based healing art called Tao Yin and a creative/fluid practice of animal forms.  The philosophy being that the human being can shape-shift their energy to align with the five elements: Earth, Wood, Fire, Water and Metal–to heal, rejuvenate and regain primal range of motion.

Personally, Yin Yoga has brought the essence of each asana to life.  Visualizing the shapes, their shifts in energy and their ability to constant change.  Yin naturally mimics animal forms and because animals have their elemental integrity in tact, they call upon their distinct kind of movement to function.  This imagery helps me to recognize how we can call upon our own distinct kind of movement, naturally & organically.

And for those who practice Yin, we understand the three tattvas ... play with your edge, resolve to remain still, hold for time.  Waiting for the invitation to go deeper within a meditative state and holding beyond those first couple of minutes when we just stretch and stress the connective tissues and fascia ... and beyond that threshold ... we meet the Yin in the pose.

Personally, I have embraced the whole miracle of Yin as it resonates deeply ... getting out of the way to allow something greater to feed, nourish and heal the mind-body.  Yin allows me to either dance with the energy or stay right at the eye of the storm ... that place I anticipate between trust and fear.

Beyond gratitude, Yin has helped me to place trust in the wisdom on the mat ... and extended further ... into the rest of my life.  Yin has supported and encouraged me to find a place of surrender where a layer of surrender, I didn’t existed let alone I could access, starts to peel away.  Beyond gratitude for the allowance, the space to be, and accept what is, with clarity and resolve ...

Today I read an article on the Natural News website about commercial protein powders and shakes.  As we know they are extremely popular within the fitness industry, professionals and every day folks that are looking to get that extra protein kick.  What was alarming though was the ingredients found within that can compromise your health.

How can something that is suppose to be “good for your health” be contaminated with heavy metals and MSG?  It seems unreal and perhaps some won’t believe it.  Yet from what is considered the “Consumer Reports”, test samples of 15 protein powders and shakes contained trace arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.  As for mono sodium glutamate, during the processing of high protein foods, MSG is created.  So it is not an additional ingredient but a byproduct of the manufacturing process ... which does not need to be labeled.  They attempt to minimize the creation of MSG by low temperature drying but the end result is still a denatured protein.

And if you are unsure of the affects of these, do your own research, understand the potential damage and if  you are wiling to take the risk ...

Sadly, prior to my diagnosis, I was a fan of meal replacement protein shakes, powders and bars.  I now believe I was eating “healthy junk food”.  Chemicals that my body did not know what to do with.  Toxic.  You know the saying ...
if it comes FROM a plant, eat it ...
if it was MADE in a plant, don’t.

Thankfully, I read an alternative protein source is nutritional yeast which has 8 grams of protein per serving.  Sold as flakes or powder, it is a deactivated yeast that is low in fat and sodium, free of sugar, dairy and gluten and a complete protein (all nine amino acids).  In regards to flavor, it is described as nutty, cheesy and creamy and a great substitute for cheese (yay vegans!).

In regards to “nutrition” it is packed with B-vitamins, folic acid, selenium, and zinc too.  As well, nutritional yeast does not have MSG but has naturally occurring glutamic acid which is an amino acid found in many fruits and vegetables.  And you may not be so keen to put a scoop of it in your smoothie but some other options are adding it to mashed potatoes, sprinkling on a pasta dish or popcorn and other savory options.

After all, we are in search of good, wholesome foods and knowing that there are REAL FOOD options that can provide us what we require to thrive is the key.  You decide what is right for you ... but remember to respect yourself and truly listen to your body.

" Helping Hand ... "

" Everybody needs a helping hand
Take a look at your fellow man
And tell me what can I do today
Everybody needs a helping out
If that ain't what it's all about
Tell me what
What can I do
What can I do today"

I find it really interested when I share the types of medications that I am currently taking on the Gerson Therapy with my Mommy girlfriends ... in particular, their ears perk up when they hear Colostrum.  Yes that is right, Colostrum, naturally produced by the mammary gland of a mother prior to the production of milk.  The difference being that the form we ingest during treatment is defatted.

Why?  Well, whole Colostrum contains the natural fat, which includes fat-soluble vitamins.  When this is filtered or defatted, elements are removed that could cause allergic reactions.  The result is a Colostrum that is rich in protein and high levels of immunoglobulins.  Filtered Colostrum products can be very potent (40% or higher immunoglobulins) and are intended for the treatment of flu-type symptoms, severe colds, inflammation, and immune system disorder such as cancer.  They are quickly absorbed through the intestinal tract into the blood stream.

Jogging our memories, many of us have been told about how good mothers milk is for a newborn.  The reason being that  Colostrum provides life-supporting immune and growth factors that insures the health and vitality of the baby.  Therefore the connection being that Colostrum can aid in cancer treatment because in particular the Gerson Therapy focuses on the body's ability to heal itself.  Detoxifying the body and then flooding the body with nutrients, will help the body to rebuild.  And since Colostrum strengthens the immune system, many people who have trouble healing after surgery or are undergoing toxic treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation, choose to support their healing.  Hence, as a means to strengthen the weakened immune system, oral consumption of Colostrum is simple, inexpensive and free of harmful side effects.  And since I am on a natural, alternative treatment for cancer, I can use all the help I can get to rebuild my immune system.

So given the increasing incidence of cancer and our ongoing exposure to many carcinogens in our environment, it may be wise for many to incorporate an anti-cancer diet and lifestyle for prevention and maybe with a little help if you desire.  Of course, first consult your health practitioner when considering any form of medication, synthetic or herbal.  I for one am not in favour of self-medicating, yet am in favour of understanding your health.  Always, always, always do your research and know what you are ingesting in your body ... and know the benefits and side effects to determine if it is right for you.
